Stillness in the Valley

$400.00

Oil on Canvas, 4” x 12” x 1.5”, 2025

Stillness in the Valley is inspired by a moment of quiet observation within Yellowstone’s Hayden Valley, where expansive wetlands and gentle waterways reveal the slow, enduring forces that shape the land. Created from field research and direct observation, the painting reflects an investigation into the region’s geological history—specifically the volcanic activity and caldera formations that continue to define the valley’s form and ecology.

Soft transitions of green, blue, and earth tones evoke the subtle movement of water and grass across the landscape, while the low horizon and open sky emphasize stillness and spatial depth. The composition invites the viewer into a moment of pause, where time feels suspended and the land’s ancient processes quietly surface through color and texture.

This work is part of an ongoing exploration of Yellowstone’s evolving terrain, translating geological history into an intimate, painterly experience grounded in observation, memory, and place.

This piece was created for the 3 Square Art - 100 Square Inches of Art 25 show and was accepted and showcased on the Featured Gallery wall during the 2025 exhibit.
