Spirit

$1,100.00

Oil on Canvas, 40” x 48” x 1.5”, 2023

Spirit was inspired by a return to San Francisco and a quiet moment of rediscovery within the city’s landscape. While revisiting familiar places from years past, I found myself drawn back to a stand of eucalyptus trees near the Blue Jay View Point at Fort Mason.

This painting centers on a single eucalyptus trunk, its twisting form rendered through layered, expressive brushwork that emphasizes movement, resilience, and growth. The textured surface captures the shifting bark, while the surrounding light and foliage suggest the expansive presence of the landscape beyond—hinting at views toward the Golden Gate Bridge, Angel Island, and the open water beyond.

Spirit is both a portrait of place and a personal meditation on memory, change, and continuity. Through color, gesture, and form, the painting reflects the enduring connection between landscape and lived experience, honoring a moment of return and recognition within a familiar, ever-evolving environment.
