Oil on Canvas, 24” x 48” x 1.5”, 2024
This painting was inspired by my experience in Yellowstone’s Hayden Valley, where the land itself feels alive—shaped and animated by the geothermal forces beneath it. The rolling hills appear to undulate, as if breathing, their forms shaped by the slow movement of heat and pressure rising from the volcanic caldera below. Layers of warm golds, muted greens, and cool blues reflect the shifting light of early fall, when the grasses glow and the air carries both stillness and tension.
A lone bison moves across the landscape, small yet powerful against the vastness of the valley. Though bison often roam in herds, this solitary figure embodies the quiet resilience and ancient presence of the species—an emblem of Yellowstone’s enduring wildness. The painting captures a moment of pause within an ever-moving terrain, where geology, ecology, and time intersect.
